Uhm..  Publicerat måndag 28 maj 2007 18:55

I'm a bit overwhelmed. I dont know what to say. Here's a song for ya.

Chumbawamba - Homophobia

Up behind the bus-stop in the toilets off the street
There are traces of a killing on the floor beneath your feet
Mixed up with the piss and beer are bloodstains on the floor
From the boy who got his head kicked in a night or two before

Homophobia
The worst disease
You cant love who you want to love in times like these

In the pubs, clubs and burgerbars breeding pens for pigs
Alcohol, testosterons and ignorance and fist
Packs of hunting animals roam across the town
They find an easy victim and they punch him to the ground

Homophobia
The worst disease
You cant love who you want to love in times like these

The siren of the ambulance the deadpan of the cops
Chalk to mark the outline where the boy first dropped
Beware the holy trinity - church and state and law
For every death the virus gets more deadly then before

Homophobia
The worst disease
You cant love who you want to love in times like these

Latest News From Moscow Pride  Publicerat måndag 28 maj 2007 01:47

Dear All,

Nikolai has been arrested. He has been moved from the police station where he was detained.
Volker Beck spent all the evenings calling all his contacts in Germany and in
Russia to try to provide legal assistance to the 3 who will be judged in court
tomorrow at 11am including Nikolai. We really fears that Nikolai Alekseev will be sent to prison for 15 days as a figure of the organizing team.
Unofficially, we received confirmation that this is what the General Prosecutor already asked.
We are not very optimistic about the result of tomorrows court hearing. We can say that all 3 have been provided with legal assistance.

Ludmila Alekseeva from the Moscow Helsinki Group was reached by phone and
contacted the head of the police station as well as some lawyer.
Unfortunately, in between, the 3 detainee were moved to another place.
Nikolai has been contacted this evening by phone and spoke with Marco Cappato and Volker Beck.

There is nothing more we can say as of tonight.

We have a confirmation that one team member of the pride was hit in the face.
We are now waiting for tomorrows court hearing.
Tonight it is extremely clear that orders are being given to court and militia
directly from Kremlin. Russian authorities have been very unofficially explained that
in case they send organizers to prison, maximum will be done in western Europe to pressure European
delegates of the IOC to vote against Sochi candidature for the 2014 Olympics.
Also, MEP (no name can be given at this time) could ask the EU parliament to
somehow manage to pass a resolution asking to ban entrance to the EU to Mayor
Luzhkov and some of his team members.
Russian authorities have been reminded that because monday is a holliday in most
of western europe, any sentence to prison might get headlines on tuesday morning in Europe.

Tonight, we can only remind EU the words of Sophie Veld : Human Rights are
indivisible. They are is no such thing as Human Rights light. You cannot pick and choose

Thanks for your attention.

PS: please forward wherever you can

This is the email adress of the mayor of Moscow

Please write immediately, asking for the immediate release of the Moscow Pride
organisers, and assurance that next year's event will be approved by the city and
fully protected by the police.

I give my support  Publicerat söndag 27 maj 2007 18:03

to the russian lgbtq community.

Right-wing and orthodox extremists attacked gay rights activists and supporters of the unauthorised demonstration.

GayRussia leader Nikolai Alexeyev was bundled into a police van and driven away moments after arriving outside the offices of Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov, who has called homosexuals "satanic".

Mr Alexeyev was attempting to deliver a petition signed by more than 50 MEPs urging Mr Luzhkov to allow such events.

British veteran gay rights activist Peter Tatchell was punched in the face by an anti-gay rights protester.

After receiving the blow, he leaned on a lamppost and shouted: "Someone protect me, Someone protect me," before being roughly escorted away by riot police.
